Dionysus Records

Dionysus Records
Garage, Rockabilly, Surf, Punk, Exotica label originally based in Burbank, California, founded at the tail end of 1983 by Lee Joseph. The label started as Iconoclast International Records & Tapes, an extension of a cassette-only label run out of the Roads to Moscow record store in Tucson, AZ between ‘81-‘83. In 1984, Lee moved to Los Angeles and, with the help of Suzy and Greg Shaw at BOMP!, established the Dionysus label in Southern California. The label relocated to Joshua Tree, CA in 2013. Their warehouse location was changed in late 2018.

Starting in about 1992 all, if not most, vinyl lacquers for Dionysus Records (including sublabels Bacchus Archives, Orange Sky, and Hell Yeah) were cut at History Of Recorded Sound in Culver City, CA by Len Horowitz, where the mastering and lacquer cutting facilities are often referred to as HRS Records or HRS Studios. Pressing has primarily been handled by Rainbo Records but before that it was Erika Records and before that it was Alberti. Occasional releases may have also been pressed at Bill Smith Custom Records (eventually purchased by United), United Record Pressing, or Record Technology Incorporated. After relocating to Joshua Tree, all process steps are beginning to be handled by Rainbo Records.
