Sanctuary Records

Sanctuary Records
Record company.

For the label when any Sanctuary logo appears, use Sanctuary.

Sanctuary Records is maintained in the UK solely for reissues by BMG Rights Management (as of 2013). Between 2007 and 2013, Sanctuary's parent companies and copyright holders (Sanctuary Records Ltd. and Sanctuary Records Group Ltd.) were divisions of Universal Music Operations Ltd. Sanctuary's catalogue consisted of 170,000 recordings, including the back catalogues of Trojan Records and defunct labels like Bronze, Creole, Immediate, Jet, Transatlantic, and Pye.

Artists on the roster included The Charlatans, Alison Moyet, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Tyler, John Hiatt, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Brian Wilson and Joan Osbourne.

The North American office was started in 2000.

In August 2007, Sanctuary agreed to a £44.5m takeover by the Universal Music Group, then in September Universal announced "it has been decided that its Sanctuary Records UK division will no longer continue as a stand alone, front-line record label."

Sanctuary UK still functions as a management company and handles touring for artists including James Morrison.

In 2012 Universal Music Group acquired EMI and had to divest Sanctuary Records to get approval from regulators. The label and affiliated companies were sold to BMG Rights Management for £40 million.

Note: The Sanctuary Group has many imprints and sub-labels. Please examine your release carefully to ascertain the correct label in the Sanctuary Group family.
