Artur Rodzinski
Polish-born conductor, born January 1, 1892, in Spalato, Dalmatia, Austria- Hungary (now Split, Croatia), where his father was serving as a general in the army. He grew up in Lemberg, Galicia (now Lviv, Ukraine). He died in Boston, Massachusetts on November 27, 1958. Father of Richard Rodzinski, past artistic director of the San Francisco Opera and the The Metropolitan Opera.
Second music director of The Cleveland Orchestra from 1933 to 1943, succeeding Nikolai Sokoloff.
