Georgia Gibbs
American popular singer and vocal entertainer rooted in jazz.
Born August 17, 1919 Worcester, Massachusetts; Died December 9, 2006 (age 87) New York City, New York.
She began singing at the age of 13. he joined the Hudson-DeLange Orchestra in 1936 (age 17), and toured with them for 10 months as Fredda Gibson.
She charted 25 times solo and once with a duet with Bob Crosby. Four of her recordings rose to the top 5--"Kiss of Fire" which hit #1 in 1952, "Dance with Me Henry (Wallflower)" which hit #1 in 1955, "Tweedlee Dee", which hit #2 in 1955, and "(If I Knew You Were Comin') I'd've Baked a Cake" which hit #5 in 1950.
She recorded periodically as Fredda Gibbons and Fredda Gibson, and changed her name to Georgia Gibbs in the early 1940s.
