Kemistry & Storm

Kemistry & Storm
Female Drum & Bass DJ & producer duo, composed of Kemistry (aka Valerie Olukemi A. "Kemi" Olusanya) and Storm (aka Jane Conneely).

Kemistry and Storm met while at college in Kettering. They kept in touch as their lives diverged over the coming years, working in radiography and as a make-up artist respectively, and gave up their careers to begin DJing when both found themselves living in London in the early 1990s. They began DJing in 1991 with a male DJ (Double G) under the name of Mach-3, playing on the pirate station Touchdown FM with Goldie MCing for them under the pseudonym Mack Daddy G. They then moved to Defection FM

With Goldie, whom Kemistry had introduced to the drum and bass scene, they helped set-up and run Metalheadz for two-and-a-half years before leaving the label. The success of the DJ-Kicks album brought them opportunities to DJ internationally and has been described as "paving the way for other, younger, female DJs".

They were resident DJs at Speed In London. They also hosted radio shows on pirate stations Touchdown FM, Defection FM & Underground FM.

The duo's collaboration came to an end with the death of Kemistry in an unusual road accident in the early morning of 25 April 1999, while returning from a Kemistry & Storm gig in Southampton. She was hit by a loose cat's eye on the road, which broke through the windscreen and killed her instantly.
