Automatic City's music is by no means boring blues. These two musicians found their inspiration from blues as released on Sun Records, Fat Possum or Chess. Automatic City mixes it with its taste for orientalist and psychedelic exotica, science fiction movie soundtracks, African rhythms and electronic beats. Like Link Wray on camelback in the Sahara, Sonny Boy Williamson with the hiccups from rockabilly Charlie Feathers, RL Burnside abducted by a tribe of cloned aliens of Alan Vega or Carl Craig performing a DJ set in a church Mississippi Baptist. In addition to integrating influences, this album is a breathtaking retro-futurist trip on board a machine to travel spaced out. Exciting, magical, impure, innovative and liberated.
