Billy Childish is one of the most emotive, elemental (and productive) performers that the English scene has produced.
Famed as a painter, poet and novelist, for the past three decades Billy has also been making his own brand of punk, blues and 'low-fi'. Say's Billy "Actually I'll use any gear going to achieve the sound the song wishes to have, my job is to create the environment then get out the way. For me the sound comes first, performance second, then a good tune helps. If a cassette player catches the moment, I'll us that but if I need to overdub 16 tracks on a digital system to achieve the effect of effortlessness I will, because the art of recording is the same as the art of painting: to use smoke and mirrors to make the inaudible audible and the invisible world more real".
NB. This compilation focuses on the rock and roll element of Billy Childish's output, fans of his spoken word and nursery rhyme inspired work will have to await a further 'archive' to appear.
