RING OF FIRE RECORDS presents OFarrell, the unofficial fi rst album by the band Jaya The Cat. Recorded backin 1999, it was never released until now, 14 years later. All the tapes were recovered and are now presented tothe public for the fi rst time as a white 180 gram vinyllimited edition (500 pieces), as a digisleeve-CD withvinyl-look and as download. Back when singer Geoffwrote the songs for the album, he was living on themulti-cultural street OFarrell in San Francisco - hencethe album name. The typical Jaya The Cat sound ispresent on the album, however with more punk elementsthan usual: Distorted guitars with impulsive offbeat andabove all Geoffs distinctive rough voice. Some of thesongs were rerecorded for the album Basment Style.Highlights are the three brilliant cover songs Night Nurseby Gregory Isaacs, Walking The Cow by Daniel Johnstonand Misunderstood, which was made famous by theAnimals and is transformed to a rockska version byJaya The Cat. All photographs in the artwork were takenby Joseph Szymanski on and in the vicinity of OFarrellstreet. Szymanski is a photographer from San Franciscowho spends his time working mainly with analogous fi lmmaterial and developing his own photos in a darkroom, and also teaches at the Academy of Art University in SanFrancisco.
