Repress! A reissue of the legendary 1963 LP on Philips by Dutch abstract expressionist painter Karel Appel (1921-2006), one of the founders of the avant-garde movement Cobra. The music, intended to accompany a documentary on himself, is regarded as a masterpiece of Musique Concrete. Expect a fantastic mixture of electric organ fumblings, full-on riots of distorted kettledrum and assorted percussion-room filigree, assembled into anextremely edit-heavy suite, often using tape-speed manipulation. A more remarkable record has not been produced inmany a year. This edition contains exclusive photos by Ed van der Elsken and notes by cinematographer Jan Vrijman.
