Pere Pubill Calaf, known as Peret was an amazing singer and guitarist. He took the gypsy sounds to fame in Spain, and became the most popular figure of the Catalan Rumba movement.
Peret was born in Mataró (Barcelona) and earned his early fame thanks to his explosive live performances. He found great success in Madrid’s El Duende “tablao flamenco”, which led to his early recordings - this LP contains his first released tunes, originally appeared on several 7”.
Peret would soon become a social phenomenon – even on the boites and discotheques where youngsters danced to the UK and USA pop hits of the day and to Spanish big local acts like Los Bravos, at midnight the DJs used to play Peret’s rumba records with great success.
Even though he took some time off in the eighties when he joined the Evangelic Church of Philadelphia, he came back in the nineties and remained successfully active until his death in 2014. Dive into the sounds of the Catalan Rumba king!
