These recordings pull back a curtain to reveal the mysteriousworld of Syntoma and Mexico's early '80s underground. Foundedby Alex Eisenring in 1980, Syntoma made use of synths and drummachines and was driven by a freedom-seeking DIY ethos, butinformed by a "rock-jazz-prog-experimental" background. These'70s influences throw crazed funhouse mirror reflections ontolater Kraftwerk, UK synth-pop, post-punk and pure pop forms.Primarily a trio during the period of these recordings,1981-'84, Syntoma transcended the era and stood apart fromtheir peers with a surprising melodic sense, harmonic adventurousness, interesting arrangements and, above all, anatmosphere of freshness and enthusiasm..
