Remarks:
Poet, novelist, musician and academic, Anthony Joseph teams up with legendary UK producer Dave Okumu for 'Rowing Up River To Get Our Names Back'Dave Okumu, known perhaps best as frontman for The Invisible, though digging deeper into his production credits, huge names emerge such as, Grace Jones, Amy Winehouse, Jesse Ware, Rosie Lowe and Eska. On this album, the magic and alchemy of Dave's production style showcase subtle sonics and deep layering resulting in a contemporary sound to carry Anthony's afrofuturistic metrical meanings.Anthony and Dave first came across each other when working with Shabaka Hutchings during Covid broadcasts, and then after Anthony performed some poems on Dave's 2023 album 'I Came From Love', the seeds of collaboration were sown. With a little more psychedelia, a little more experimentation, Dave's eclectic vision focuses on the actual sounds on these pieces. Anthony stated that "The best producers guide you, not push you" now add to that the fact that both these humans were born on the same day, a concoction of laid back attitudes in people with strong purpose, some real magic can happen, naturally. –

Remarks:
American jazz pianist Les McCann, was born in Lexington, Kentucky. He grew up in a musical family of four, a brother and three sisters, with most of McCann's family singing in church choirs. His father was a fan of jazz music and his mother was known to hum opera tunes around the house. As a youth, he played the tuba and drums and performed in his school's marching band. As a pianist, McCann was largely self-taught. He later explained he only received piano lessons for a few weeks as a six-year-old before his teacher died. This collection features eight original albums by Les McCann, all in remastered quality, and all spanning the golden years of McCanns musical career, 1960 - 1963, when the great mans musical potency was at its most pronounced. Featuring too accompanying musicians who made up his esteem Trio, and other notables with whom he recorded and performed.A perfect starting place for those wishing to familiarise themselves with this maverick musicians finest work, the compilation additionally functions as the ultimate collection for jazz fans everywhere. –

Argento" is an intimate and sublime Dark Doomy Jazz piece of Art. With these few words you have a precise image of what the new A.M.E.N. album is.Vittorio Sabelli (Dawn Of A Dark Age, Notturno, Incantvm) and Erba Del Diavolo from Ponte Del Diavolo, hearts, minds and souls of the band, have given an incredible stylistic twist to A.M.E.N, creating a work that succeeds to move from typically Jazz and Blues compositions to moments of pure Dark Doom, all with the voice of Erba Del Diavolo which is here a true protagonist, decanting and giving melodies an interpretation that moves from the great jazz singers of the past to embrace the present with her dark nuances."Argento" is a tribute to the king of horror Dario Argento and this time it empties itself of the Metal component of the past to give space to noir shades, smoky Jazz club atmospheres and an oppressive Doom. It's an intimate, avant-gardish work disconnected from the classic patterns of modern feeling. A masterpiece of Jazz and Blues in a pure Dark Doom context for fans of Ulver, Chelsea Wolfe, Swans, Russian CirclesSo expect an album that shows you that when extreme music meets so-called "high" music, the result is unexpectedly sublime –

This 2-disc set features reedman Peter Kuhn's Livin' Right, a free jazz masterpiece originally recorded live in 1978, blending energetic horns, driving basslines, and intricate drum work. Featuring talents like William Parker on bass, Denis Charles on drums, and twin trumpeters Toshinori Kondo and Arthur Williams, the album delivers intense improvisation, engaging polyphony, and unforgettable performances. 'Quat Live At Hasselt' by Belgian pianist Fred Van Hove and his quartet offers a fascinating exploration of percussive improvisation. Van Hove mixes jazz and contemporary classical influences, while vibraphonist Els Vandeweyer and drummers Paul Lovens and Martin Blume create intricate textures with taps, hisses, and thuds. The album features four improvised tracks where the musicians communicate seamlessly, creating natural rhythmic flurries. Highlights include Vandeweyer's unique use of vibes and the dramatic closing of 'H2,' where only a lone cymbal rings out after a climactic moment. –

Remarks:
On 'Live With Repertoire,' British pianist Howard Riley focuses on standards, particularly Monk and Ellington, blending familiar tunes with his unique improvisational style. Recorded live in Leicester in 2011, Riley delivers a captivating set, balancing embellished renditions like 'I'm Getting Sentimental Over You' with more straightforward interpretations like 'Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues Are.' His originals, such as 'Now One' and 'Now Two,' showcase his inventive approach, while his take on ''Round Midnight' adds subtle dissonances. Despite his Parkinson's diagnosis, Riley's artistry remains vibrant, making this album perfect for lovers of jazz piano. –

Remarks:
Tara Clerkin Trio present their self titled debut LP on Laura Lies In. Similar to that directorial effect of filming at double speed and then slowing down for playback, the record ambles with assurance, expertly paced. Having solidified the workings of the group over the last year their debut self-titled has emerged alongside a strong live set. Drifting from dubby minimalism to smudged acid jazz, Tara's stark and tuneful voice acts as the vehicle for her concise poetic lyricism. The group coalesce disparate influences into a cohesive sound, reflecting a romantic view of a familiar worldA record existing disconnected from the daily getyadowns, a holiday from life, optimism as resistance against mundanity, something extraordinary amongst the ordinary, positively grey. –

Remarks:
William Hooker's Quintet showcases an intricate blend of free improvisation with a clear sense of structure on 'Channels Of Consciousness'. Recorded live at Roulette in 2010, the continuous 68-minute performance features trumpeter Chris DiMeglio's recurring motif and Hooker's carefully marshaled grooves. The intensity ebbs and flows, with standout moments like Dave Ross' slide guitar solo on 'Character' and Adam Lane's atmospheric bass work on 'Mother's History (Untold).' Inspired by Richard Wright's unfinished novel 'A Father's Law,' the piece combines musical exploration with spoken word elements. Though some sections may feel overwhelming, the album's passion and complexity make it a compelling listen. –

Remarks:
Back in the day, when he was the drummer for Poni Hoax, Vincent Taeger would sing in French whatever came to his mind backstage after concerts, just for fun, to amuse his friend the late Nicolas Ker. Since then, time has flown by, undoubtedly bringing its share of ups and downs. Nonetheless, today, this artist with a long career is finally releasing his debut album as a singer, 'OK Crooner.' It's indeed an album for a singer, but also one for a musician. For this part, Taeger doesn't come alone, he brings along the Jazz Kamasutra, a sexy sextet that knows how to play everything and will later accompany him on stage. To get to this point, Vincent Taeger had to stop playing around with big names like Air, Damon Albarn, Justice, Lenny Kravitz, Skepta, Tony Allen, Oumou Sangar, Jeff Mills, Archie Shepp, Sampa the Great, Andrea Laszlo de Simone... More than half of the major artists with whom he once collaborated, contributing to their albums or simply laying down a drum, bass, or any other heavy instrument line. Before 'OK Crooner,' he also transformed into Tiger Tigre. This roaring alias was used for a first solo album, instrumental and so deep that one might have thought the ghost of Franois de Roubaix had taken shape. But that was before. Before this exceptional musician decided to dive into the vast ocean of French variety to give a sequel, a culmination to this project. –

Remarks:
'DETECTIVES, GUNS, SPIES & BABES...' OSS! Spy vs. Spy! MI6! All operating in the shadows of darkness and danger... listen... underneath that double-trouble of uncertainty lays the groove. The exotic and the erotic sounds. 007! The music with a license to kill and thrill. When the clock strikes five and it is cocktail time, no man is a match for the soundtrack of the femme fatale of the underworld. Shake that thing baby - don't stir it... and the Martini too. The spy universe has been quite an inspiration for composers and orchestras. Lounge music, exotica and symphonic, this record will have you spinning the globe hitting every longitude and latitude from Bangkok to Rio.So drop that needle and get on board this third volume as this jet is leaving the gate right on time. Limited to 400 copies. –
