Sidney Miller

Sidney Miller
Brazilian composer and recording artist.

Born: 18 April 1945 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Died: 16 July 1980 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (aged 35).

An impressive composer of some jewels (recorded by several important artists) who never aroused a bigger interest from the recording industry, in spite of having been a very popular artist at historic festivals. His compositions have been recorded by Nara Leão, MPB-4, Quarteto Em Cy, Caetano Veloso, Alaíde Costa, and Gal Costa.

In 1967, his "A Estrada E O Violeiro" was awarded for Best Lyrics at TV Record’s III FMPB, defended by Nara Leão and Miller. In the same year he recorded his eponymous first album, "" (Elenco), which had tracks "A Estrada E O Violeiro" (with Nara Leão), "Maria Joana", "Marré-de-Cy", "Argumento", "O Circo", "Menina Da Agulha", and "Pede Passagem", among others.

Miller recorded only three records, but great interpreters as Nara Leão (his muse), Clara Nunes, Quarteto Em Cy, and Caetano Veloso, among many others, have been inspired by the sad beauty of its compositions.

Sadly, he committed suicide in 1980.
