Stig Westerberg
Swedish court conductor, conductor and pianist, born 26 November 1918 in Malmö, died 1 July 1999 in Lidingö.

Westerberg received his education at the Stockholm Academy of Music 1937–1942. He studied music theory for Melcher Melchers and conducting for Tor Mann. In addition, he graduated as a cantor and organist in 1941. He also conducted private studies in conducting for Carl von Garaguly and Paul Kletzki.

Westerberg was a rehearsal artist at the Royal Theater 1941–1945 and made his debut as a concert conductor with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1946. He was conductor at the Oscar Theater 1947–1948, conductor and artistic director of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra 1949–1953 and permanent conductor at the Royal Theater 195–1957.

In the years 1957–1983, Westerberg was conductor at Swedish Radio and principal conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra. He was chief conductor of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra 1978–1985.

Westerberg conducted premieres of nearly a hundred Swedish orchestral works, several of which were recorded on record, and can be considered a very important personality in 20th century Swedish music life.
