Enja Records

Enja Records was founded in July 1971 in Munich by jazz fans Matthias Winckelmann and Horst Weber.
In May 1977, the German distribution was taken over by Bellaphon which ended in March 1999.
Some few releases since 1983 were temporarily distributed by TIS as well.
Since April 2002 distribution for new releases is managed by Soulfood Music Distribution GmbH.
The back-catalogue is distributed by Galileo Music Communication since April 2009.
In January 2019 Edel Contraire took over the distribution of Enja Records.
In 1986 Matthias Winckelmann and Horst Weber decided to separate and to work individually, so for several years there were two Enja Records labels: Enja Records Matthias Winckelmann GmbH and Enja Records Horst Weber GmbH.

More recently, the ENJA catalogues reunited. Whereas the former ENJA Horst Weber part and the new label Yellow Bird are lead by Werner Aldinger. Already some time before Matthias Winckelmann's demise Werner Aldinger also administers ENJA Records M. Winckelmann.
There is also the ENJA Publishing department with \“enja European New Jazz Musikverlagsgesellschaft mbH".

Some releases have a code with prefix DEA followed by 9 digits (e.g. DEA590006200). These represent a range of ISRC codes assigned to the individual tracks on the release, with the trailing zeroes being placeholders for the track numbers (e.g. DEA590006201, DEA590006202, ...). These can be added to BAOI as ISRC, as printed on the release. Example:
