Bohuslän Big Band
Fully professional big band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Since 2004, the band's main location is Vara Concert Hall (Vara Konserthus), which is financed by the Västra Götaland region. The band's repertoire consists of music by artists such as: Duke Ellington, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Bob Mintzer, Steely Dan, Lars Jansson, Maria Schneider and George Gershwin.
The band was originally a military orchestra that began playing big band jazz in 1956.
Although most of the tours take place around Sweden, the band also goes on longer trips. As the first Swedish big band, Bohuslän Big Band released a tour to Japan and China in 2001, the band also returned to Japan in 2003 and 2008. Other tours have gone to England, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, Egypt and to Washington DC for gigs at House of Sweden and Kennedy Center.
