Dool
Dutch psychedelic rock band.
Formed in 2015.
Featuring members of critically-acclaimed dark rock band The Devil's Blood and death rock group Gold, DOOL is an explosive, unbridled force. The Dutch band radiates an undeniable raw energy that blends classic hard rock, gothic pop and psychedelic metal to create their own dynamic sound.
Audibly influenced by bands such as Sisters of Mercy and Sonic Youth, DOOL bends these sounds to fit its own vision, giving birth to an ominous new entity. Led by striking singer Raven van Dorst (before May 2022 Ryanne van Dorst a.k.a. Elle Bandita) alongside guitarists Nick Polak (Gold) and Reinier Vermeulen (The New Media), bassist Job van de Zande (The Devil’s Blood, Malkovich) and drummer Micha Haring (The Devil’s Blood, The Hands), DOOL became a hotly-tipped underground buzz band on the strength of its captivating debut single, "Oweynagat" and a red hot live performance at Roadburn Festival in 2016.
The release of their sophomore album Summerland was higly anticipated, but the tour planned to promote the album was hindered by the corona pandemic. Two frustrating years followed but finally in 2022 DOOL was all over the fesitval calender again and the band rounded off the Summerland period by a historic performance at the Arminius church in their hometown Rotterdam, released as a live album in 2023. The show also marked the farewell of drummer Micha Haring. Leading member Raven van Dorst found their band seeking new inspriation, felt "creatively depressed", as she said in an interview with dutch newspaper De Volkskrant, and found guitarists Omar Iskandr (who replaced Reinier Vermeulen in 2019) and Nick Polak taking the lead in writing new material, which totally turned out to be the best way to restart DOOL. The band presented their third album The Shape of Fluidity with a peformance at 2024's Roadburn. Full circle? Or maybe just the beginning...
