"The Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias" (English), or "Orquesta Sinfónica del Principáu d'Asturies" (in Asturian), is also sometimes credited as "OSPA".
The History of the "Orchestra of the Principality" dates back to 1939, which would officially be presented as "Symphony Orchestra" in January 1940 under the baton of Amalio Lopez.
In 1943 he took over the direction Angel Muñiz, at twenty in his absence he was temporarily reduced to "Chamber Orchestra". As a tribute, I recover splendor and its primitive form,
becoming known as the Asturias Symphony Orchestra "Angel Muñiz Toca". During this second stage the directors were names linked to Asturian musical life as Vicente Santimoteo and Alfonso Ordieres, until the arrival in 1974 of the Master Benito Lauret. In 1980 a new stage opens with the incorporation of Víctor Pablo Pérez, this culminary in 1988 with the decision to replace the old "Symphony Orchestra of Asturias" with a new set of larger staff, already prepared to assume wider repertoires. "The Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias" was officially presented on May 12, 1991, being its first titular Director Jesse Levine. It is a group composed of 70 professors, in which musicians belonging to very different nationalities are integrated, counting since 1994 with the firm and safe baton of Maximiano Valdés, performing several hundreds of international works, touring a lot in Chile and Mexico D.F.
